TV star Caillou’s World comes to iPhone

We’re based in the UK, so aren’t familiar with Canadian kids’ TV show Caillou, which has apparently been airing on the PBS channel in the US for 10 years. That’s impressive longevity though, so we’ll take it as read the eponymous hero is popular with children on that side of the Atlantic.

Now he’s got an iPhone game called Caillou’s World, courtesy of developer Night & Day Studios. Its a neat mixture of colouring and letter-learning. Each scene – playground, loft, playschool etc – starts in black and white, and your child has to touch objects or people and guess what letter their name begins with. If correct, they get coloured in.

The game sounds pretty forgiving too – a good thing – giving players multiple guesses and clues. New items appear each time a scene is played, to keep the challenge fresh too. According to Night & Day, it’s aimed at 2-4 year-olds.

At £1.99 on the App Store, it sounds worth a go even if you’re unfamiliar with the character. There’s a separate iPad version that costs the same price. And actually, the apps may be a good introduction that spurs people to seek out the show.
