04.22.13Meet Wombi Apps’ Shape, Letter and Number MonstersBack in 2011, Swedish developer Wombi Apps launched a fun educational app called Color Monster, featuring a friendly beast teaching children their colours. Now, in 2013, he's got some friends. Wombi has launched three new apps in the series: Shape Monster, Number Monster and Letter Monster. You can probably tell what they're each teaching from the titles. Shape Monster is a chef, who tells children what shape foodstuffs he wants them to pass him from the bottom of the screen. 09.16.12Montessori Geometry app shapes up nicely on iOSWe're very interested in the ideas behind Montessori education, but in our experience, a lot of the apps with 'Montessori' in their title are... well, a bit pish. That's not a problem with the Montessori philosophy itself, but more a sign that some developers think slapping the word into the title of a cheap, nasty app will bump up its educational credentials. Thankfully, French developer Les Trois Elles isn't one of those companies. We liked the look of their Montessori Letter Sounds HD iPad app earlier this year, and we're even more impressed by their new release Montessori Geometry. Continue Reading...

08.25.11New Pirate Trio app introduces shapes and puzzlesWe have many shapes and puzzled in our house, which is great. My only wish is that more of them (i.e. some) were in their original boxes, rather than down the back of the sofa / behind the radiator / half-buried in plant pots in the garden. Any app that can reduce the mess is right up our alley. Shapes & Puzzles by Pirate Trio is the second piratical education app from developer Next is Great.
