Scooby-Doo gets a Stickers with Sounds iPad appThere are a growing number of digital-stickering apps on iPad, which try to capture the fun of sticker-scene books in the real world, with none of the mess (or tears over stickers that have lost their stick). Here's one based on a cartoon you should know: Scooby-Doo. The app is part of developer Night & Day Studios' series of Stickers with Sounds apps, joining previous releases based on Superman, Batman and DC Super Friends. We suspect quite a few of them may be less impressed by its inclusion of in-app purchases (IAP) of up to £69.99. 05.30.13Children’s TV show Wizards vs Aliens gets a second-screen iPad app (in the US)This isn't something we can use in the UK yet, but it's a very interesting trend: an iPad app designed to be used by kids while they're watching TV show Wizards vs Aliens. The app was released today on the App Store in the US, ahead of the show's first airing on the Hub Network this Sunday (1 June). The idea is an app that synchronises with the show's episodes as they air on TV. 05.30.13TV channel Cartoonito spawns Cartoonitos and the Beanstalk appPre-school TV channel Cartoonito is popular here in the UK, and elsewhere in the world. Now it's spawned a new app for kids on iOS: Cartoonitos and the Beanstalk. Released today, the app is a collection of 15 mini-games, all based on a plot about the colourful Cartoonitos characters travelling up a beanstalk to visit a Giant's Castle. "Water the beans, climb the beanstalk, fly to the castle, get past the cat, dodge the Giant and grab your rewards," explains its App Store listing. Now it's got a second: Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom - Magic School. Released this week by publisher P2 Games, the app takes a magical theme as your children help Ben and Holly wave wands, brew potions, eat a picnic and investigate the intriguing-sounding "box of burps" among other mini-games. The app includes music and sound effects from the TV show, and is narrated by the Nanny Plum character, so kids who love the TV show will find it reassuringly familiar. The latest one, Disney Junior Appisodes, is much more about TV shows. Aimed at pre-school children, the app brings full-length episodes of shows on the Disney Junior channel to iOS devices, offering mini-games and interactivity around them. The app includes one episode for free: Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Road Rally, with others available as in-app purchases for £2.99 apiece. Worry's for another day… Because it's the 30th anniversary of TV show Fraggle Rock, and there's a Fraggle Friends Forever app to celebrate. Is it a good idea though? It's always risky expecting kids in 2013 to care about TV shows from their parents' youth. We played a Bagpuss DVD to our children once, and they were bored to tears. We hope Fraggle Friends Forever doesn't suffer a similar fate, as it looks rather good.
